Safety
Oaxaca City is considered one of the safest cities in Mexico. Oaxacans are warm, friendly, and approachable. Many, but not all, locals speak English, so a little Spanish goes a long way. Although crime is low, take standard precautions when traveling. Lock your hotel rooms. Store valuables out of sight. Walk in groups at night.

Flights
Most will need to take at least 2 flights from your city of origin. The closest major airport is in Mexico City. Given the volume of regional flights to Oaxaca City, we highly recommend booking flights through Mexico City. See the Travel page for more info on logistics and tips to ease the journey.
Currency

Currency
Mexico uses the peso for currency. Local ATMs will work with your bank card, and they are located in the airport, as well as all over the city. Many businesses take debit or credit cards from the US. For credit cards, Amex gives the best exchange rate. You can withdraw from any ATM, and the exchange rate is much better than getting cash from a domestic bank prior to your trip. Most ATMs will let you take out at least $500 USD. Debt card purchases are not limited.

Check with your wireless carrier to find out whether an international plan is needed. From experience, most Verizon plans do not require an international plan if traveling to Mexico.

Medical Care in OAX
Should you require medical attention, we recommend going to a private hospital. They don't take insurance, but paying out of pocket is very reasonable, often less than $100 USD for labs and imaging. Many doctors will make house/hotel calls for more minor issues. Mexico uses 911 for phone emergencies.

Please No Photos During the Ceremony
Our wedding will be an intimate and sacred moment in time, and we want all of our beloved guests to be present with us and immersed in the big feelings of it all. With that in mind, we ask that phones be silenced and both phones and cameras be put away during the ceremony. Additionally, we have been very intentional about our choices in our photographer and videographer, and we want them to be able to capture the ceremony without needing to navigate around other cameras or phones. Snap photos of the rest of the weekend all you'd like, but please leave it to the pros to capture our vows. Thank you for your being with us for such an exciting occasion in our lives!

Kids are awesome, but we have decided to keep all events for adults only. For those of you bringing children with you to Mexico, we recommend checking with your hotel to see if they assist with finding sitters. It's a good idea to reach out to them in advance of your trip.

Sharing Online
We have two photographers and a videographer to capture the weekend, but we know many of you will be taking your own photos and may want to post them online. We don't have any special requests as to sharing on social media, only that you remember our request that photos not be taken during the ceremony, We are excited to see your photos from any other part of the weekend, and we invite you to send them our way if you don't plan to share on social media. As with anything else, please be mindful about what you post online and use your best judgment.
